BIG BANG TO BIG DATA

Handling data volumes comparable to the entire Internet

Radio astronomy not only provides a significant increase in knowledge related to the mysteries of our cosmos, but also produces huge amounts of data. Scientists face the intellectual and technical challenge of managing, analyzing, and understanding this vast research data. This is the only way to continue to discover unexpected phenomena such as unusual galaxies, new types of stars or planets, but also asteroids that are dangerous for the Earth, despite constantly growing data volumes.

These challenges can be transferred to other areas, for example, in the extraction of unusual sensor data in "smart cities".

The partners involved in the interdisciplinary B3D cluster have set themselves common goals in relation to these challenges.
